Hello! I am based in the Fredericton area and am currently seeking opportunities to gain hands-on experience in film production, primarily as a Set Production Assistant, with the long-term goal of moving into Assistant Director roles.

For my “day job”, I am a Senior Project Manager for the Department of National Defence. My years of project management experience has allowed me to successfully develop strong skills in organization, coordination, communication, and prioritization. I’m now looking to apply and expand those skills in a film set environment while learning industry workflows firsthand.

I am currently completing the DGC Maritimes Permittee Program Orientation and WHMIS training to strengthen my foundational knowledge and prepare for on-set work.

I am particularly interested in contributing to productions as a reliable and supportive crew member, and building strong professional habits in a production environment. I understand the importance of professionalism, punctuality, flexibility, and teamwork on set, and I’m committed to showing up prepared and ready to contribute.

I have a drivers license and access to a vehicle, and am able to travel as needed for productions. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need help with your production or if you have any questions!

With a strong background in all aspects of film production and years of experience as a visual designer, I am prepared to offer my assistance in nearly any role, at any stage of the filmmaking process.

Beyond my creative pursuits, I am equipped with professional filmmaking gear—including cameras (Full-Frame 6K BlackMagic Cinema), powerful lighting, and a set of expensive mic (lav, boom). This makes me highly mobile and independent on set, and I handle my equipment confidently, adapting quickly to new technology.

In 2025, I graduated from the Documentary Filmmaking Program at inFocus Film School in Vancouver, BC.

Since graduating, I have continued my work by making films and volunteering to support social initiatives.

Desmond Simon is a Mi'kmaq Director of Photography from Elsipogtog First Nation, recognized for his documentary work available on CBC Gem and various online platforms. Hailing from Elsipogtog, he brings a unique cultural lens to his filmmaking, beautifully capturing untold stories and unexplored narratives.

Although Desmond Simon's foundation is in documentaries, he's eager to expand into narrative cinema, displaying a hunger to learn and grow. A firm believer in collaboration, he generously lends his expertise to fellow filmmakers, cultivating a cooperative spirit within the film community, with a fresh perspective and relentless drive.

Based in Quispamsis, NB. Retired from 40 year career in Journalism (Radio/TV/Web).
