Until recently, my partner, Lauren, and I were living in Ottawa, where I completed a Master of Arts in political science while working for the military and Department of National Defence. In our spare time, we'd often explore and film historic sites in the region, and then life ground to a halt with Covid 19.
With everything on pause, we made a leap of faith, moving to New Brunswick and launching our web series - Blue Lobster Tales - where we film public history documentaries with me focused on directing and Lauren on hosting. New Brunswick has been pivotal in making creative space to foster this new journey, a journey that started in my childhood!
Filmmaking was always a creative outlet for me, having constantly filmed as a kid and travelled, as a teenager, across Canada with my father, filming documentaries about Canadian residential schools (e.g., The Fallen Feather: Indian Industrial Residential Schools and Canadian Confederation, Dr. Mary Thomas: The Mount Ida Project). So, returning to this passion through Blue Lobster Tales, my love for filmmaking and exploring creative ways of bringing stories to life has only grown. This inspiring us to start a new (sweat-inducing) journey, as Lauren and I produce our first feature-length documentary film.
